Generative AI is a fast way to draft a list of authorities from a brief. It is also a fast way to cite a case that does not exist. From today, Conspectus by JADE closes that gap: every case citation in an AI-drafted List of Authorities is checked against JADE before you rely on it.
How it works
When you draft authorities with AI on a matter, Conspectus validates each citation against JADE as the list is built:
- A green “Verified on JADE” chip means the citation was confirmed. Conspectus resolves it to the authoritative case name and links straight to its page on jade.io, so the real judgment is one click away.
- An amber “Verify on JADE” chip flags a citation JADE did not recognise – an AI slip, a typo, or an unusual report series – so you can check it yourself before it goes anywhere near a court.
No manual look-ups, no copy-paste into a separate research tool. The check runs where you work, on the matter’s Authorities tab.
Why it matters
A list of authorities is only as good as its citations. Verifying each one against JADE – the same authoritative corpus barristers already trust for research – means the list you hand up is grounded in real, findable law, not an AI’s confident guess. It is the difference between speed and speed you can rely on.
This is the first step of what we call “living law” inside Conspectus: authorities that are not just typed, but checked, named and linked back to the source. Citator currency – whether a case is still good law, or has been doubted or overruled – is the next milestone, and it is coming.
Part of the JADE suite for barristers
Conspectus is one of four tools built for barristers’ chambers, all connected to JADE:
- Conspectus – litigation brief and court-book software (brief.lawlibrary.io).
- The Law Library – chambers library management (lawlibrary.io).
- Jot – a legal reference manager (jot.lawlibrary.io).
- CPD Recorder – track your CPD against the rules of your Bar (cpd.lawlibrary.io).
JADE-verified authorities are live now for Conspectus subscribers. To try it, open a matter, go to the Authorities tab, and choose “Draft with AI.” Want to talk to us about Conspectus for your chambers? Get in touch.
