Conspectus: Litigation Brief and Court Book Software for Barristers

Conspectus by JADE is the litigation brief workspace for barristers – see the whole case at a glance. Assemble, read, search and prepare a brief, then produce a court-ready book. It runs at brief.lawlibrary.io (also conspectus.lawlibrary.io).

Assemble the brief

Upload documents or a whole folder, drag them into an ordered index, and split a large volume into its constituent documents automatically. Every page is read with OCR, so even scanned material becomes fully searchable.

Read and mark up

A fast PDF reader with highlighting, notes, tags, freehand ink and shapes; redaction that produces a genuinely secure copy; split-screen to compare two documents side by side; read-aloud; and page tools for crop, rotate and encrypt.

Search and ask

Search a single brief, or all of your briefs, by exact words or by meaning. Ask a question of the brief and get an answer grounded in the pages, with pinpoint citations you can click straight to.

Authorities and chronology

Draft a List of Authorities from the brief with every citation checked, build an automated chronology from the documents, and capture evidence rulings and tender points.

Court books and bundles

Generate a paginated, Bates-consistent court book with a clickable index and named destinations, build tender and cross-examination bundles, and keep a private preparation layer separate from what you file.

Work together securely

Real-time presence, per-author annotation layers, live co-editing of the index, and secure external-party sharing with a full access trail. Your brief stays confidential and Australian-hosted.

Part of the JADE suite

Conspectus sits alongside The Law Library, chambers library software at lawlibrary.io; Jot, the legal reference manager at jot.lawlibrary.io; and the CPD Recorder at cpd.lawlibrary.io. Try it at brief.lawlibrary.io.
