Jasmine is JADE’s AI research assistant, and if you haven’t tried it yet, it’s worth a few minutes of your time. Rather than replacing traditional legal search, Jasmine sits alongside it — offering a conversational way to explore JADE’s database of 790,000+ decisions and 223,000+ statutes.
What Jasmine actually does
Ask Jasmine a question in plain English — “What are the key cases on proportionality in sentencing for drug offences in NSW?” — and she’ll point you to relevant decisions with brief explanations of why each one matters. It’s not a substitute for reading the judgments yourself, but it’s a remarkably effective way to orient your research.
Jasmine works across the full JADE database, which means she can surface connections between cases, identify leading authorities, and help you find decisions you might not have discovered through keyword search alone.
Three practical ways to use Jasmine
1. Starting an unfamiliar area of law. If a matter lands on your desk in an area you don’t usually practice in, Jasmine can give you a quick lay of the land — key cases, relevant legislation, and the general direction of the authorities.
2. Checking your research is complete. After you’ve done your own keyword searches, ask Jasmine the same research question. She may surface decisions you missed, particularly older authorities or cases from other jurisdictions that have been followed in your state.
3. Understanding how a provision has been interpreted. Combine Jasmine with JADE’s section-level citations to get both the AI summary and the raw citation data for any statutory provision. Two perspectives are better than one.
Getting access
Jasmine is available to JADE Professional subscribers. If you’re not sure whether it’s worth the upgrade, the $1 trial gives you 14 days of full access — plenty of time to put Jasmine through her paces on a real matter. Questions? help@jade.io.
